The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead in an investigation that involved a car collision resulting in a shooting with injuries in Paterson.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of a collision with shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Auburn Street and Godwin Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a severely injured male suffering a head injury at that location. Police could not immediately confirm if the victim was shot or injured from the two-car collision.
Police say while medical personnel prepared the victim for transport to the hospital, officials at St. Joseph's Hospital contacted Paterson Police when two males entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.
According to police, the victims told hospital staff that they were shot on Godwin Avenue.
Detectives at the crime scene found several shell casings, but no suspects have been arrested.
After the initial investigation, police said the victim found at the scene suffered his injuries during the crash and was not shot.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
