Police Investigate Attempted ATM Theft at TD Bank in Cranford

Cranford New Jersey

Cranford police are investigating an attempted ATM theft that occurred at the TD Bank located at 465 East South Avenue.

Police were notified by bank security personnel that multiple suspects were at the bank attempting to pull the ATM from the building using chains and a pick-up truck at approximately 4:36 a.m., Detective Sgt. Gerard Quinn said.

As police arrived at the scene, the suspects abandoned the pick-up truck and fled in a dark colored Jeep which was parked nearby, added Quinn.

Cranford police units pursued the Jeep on Centennial and North Avenues to the Garden State Parkway northbound.  Due to safety concerns, fog, and wet road conditions, the pursuit was terminated in the area of the Union toll plaza.   Recovered in the bank parking lot was a 2002 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck that had been reported stolen in Old Bridge NJ, as well as the TD Bank ATM which had been pulled away from the front vestibule of the bank.  The scene was processed by members of the Cranford Police Department Detective Bureau and the Union County Sheriff’s Department.   Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Ryan Greco at 908-709-7339.

Witnesses may also text case related information to the Cranford Police Department via Nixle by sending to 888777 and beginning with “tip cranfordpd” before any message information.
