An Elizabeth woman is in stable condition after she was struck by a NJ Transit bus early Tuesday morning.
Police responded to the corner of W. Jersey Street and Broad Street where a woman - later identified as Zenaida Gialamas, of Elizabeth - was struck by a bus.
The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where she is listed in stable condition, according to police.
According to a preliminary investigation, the NJ Transit bus was traveling east on W. Jersey Street while making a left turn (north) onto Broad Street, the bus struck Gialamas.
The underlying reason for the contact between the pedestrian and the bus is unclear, said Lt. Daniel Geddes.
The incident remains under investigation by the Elizabeth Police Traffic Unit.
As of Wednesday, no summonses have been issued.
