Police Chase Starts in Newark, Ends with Crash, Arrest in New Providence

A high-speed police chase that started in Newark ended in a crash in Union County, New Providence, on Friday night, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.AdPreliminary information revealed that Newark Police initially attempted to pull over a white 2013 BMW X5, wanted in connection with a felony shooting, around 10:15 p.m.

However, the driver refused to stop and led the police on a pursuit through parts of Newark.

The chase escalated as the vehicle, with NJ license plate "Y41-SXE", sped onto eastbound I-280, ignoring police lights and sirens.

The pursuit continued into the westbound lanes of I-78, with speeds reportedly exceeding 75 mph.

Reports stated that Newark Police eventually terminated their pursuit near mile marker 47.8, but other law enforcement agencies, including NJ State Police, continued the chase into Union County.AdThe pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle crashed at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Union Avenue in New Providence.

One suspect was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered from the vehicle.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under investigation.
