Police took a delinquent juvenile into custody and charged him with receiving stolen property on Monday night at the Newark/Belleville border.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 9:55 p.m., police reportedly observed a vehicle whose registration came back stolen after a check of the license plate near the intersection of Mill and Prospect Avenue.
The suspect exited the vehicle and was handcuffed by police.
During the investigation, the suspect bolted away from officers and sprinted away with the handcuffs.
After a minutes-long pursuit through the neighborhoods, police captured the teen in the 800 block of Mount Prospect Avenue without further incident.
Police reported no serious injuries.
