Newark Police are on the search for a trio of carjacking suspects following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash on Tuesday evening.
The incident began when officers spotted a carjacked vehicle occupied by three individuals in the North Ward.
Attempts to pull the car over around 9 p.m. were ineffective as the suspects accelerated, initiating a pursuit through various communities in the North Ward and into parts of East Orange.
The chase came to a dramatic halt on the Lake Street and Bloomfield Avenue side of Branch Brook Park, where the suspects crashed the vehicle.
They then fled on foot, disappearing into the surrounding area and sparking an extensive search of the park.
Despite efforts by the Newark Police and the Essex County Sheriff's Department to scour the park, the suspects remained at large.
During the pursuit, a civilian vehicle was unfortunately crashed, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for its occupants.
