Police Capture Suspect Occupying Vehicle Connected to Carjacking; Suspect Wanted for Maplewood Attempted Carjacking

A police pursuit of a vehicle occupied by a suspect wanted in connection to a string of carjackings around Essex County had cops take a man into custody early this morning.

Details regarding the incident are pending police notification but according to initial reports, shortly before 6:30 p.m., an armed carjacking that was reported in the 100 block of Ballantine Parkway had cops on the scene where police began a search for several suspects who approached a person operating a grey 2013 Toyota Rav 4 and ordered the victim from the vehicle with guns drawn reports said.

The suspects were reportedly accompanied by a white Ford Edge vehicle that was occupied by at least two men inside .

The suspects fled the scene after taking the vehicle.

In another incident, according to initial reports, Maplewood police were called to the area of Springfield Avenue and Boyden Avenue at around 11 p.m. after receiving a report of a armed robbery in progress.

Units arrived and were approached by the victim who told them that a black male suspect pulled up in a white Ford Edge and attempted to carjack their vehicle.

Police searched the area in an attempt to locate the suspect but did not find the suspects or vehicle in their municipality reports said.

Newark cops, who were on high alert and aggressively patrolling several neighborhoods in the city and already searching for the carjacking suspects, came across the white Ford Edge in the area of South Orange Avenue and South 12th Street where they attempted to pull the vehicle over initial reports said.

The vehicle sped off and made it's way down Grove Street into East Orange. then eventually making its way back into Newark, where the suspect bailed out in the area South 18th Street and Avon Avenue according to reports.

A brief foot pursuit had cops apprehend the suspect a short distance away reports said.

There were no injuries immediately reported.
