Police Arrest Woman for Slashing Attack in Newark

Newark

Police placed a woman in custody yesterday afternoon and charged her with assault after she reportedly slashed a woman in a neighborhood in the city's South Ward according to authorities.

The incident unfolded in the area of Clinton Avenue and Hillside Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. when police were called to the scene on reports of an injured woman who was attacked by another woman at that location.

Units working a separate incident nearby rushed over to Clinton Avenue where they located the injured woman suffering a non-life threatening slash wound to the face.

Witnesses told police that the suspect was a female who committed the violent act then fled the scene pushing a shopping cart.

Officers canvassed the area for a few minutes before they were flagged down by witnesses who spotted the woman.

The woman was placed in custody without further incident.

The Newark Police Department is handling the investigation.
