Police Arrest Two for Weapons Possession in Newark

Police in Newark arrested Clarence M. Miller, 36, of Newark, for gun possession last night.

Authorities said, at approximately 11 p.m., detectives observed a man on a bicycle wearing a ski-mask.

The bicycle rider also made several infractions and officers attempted to conduct a bike stop. The rider struck a patrol car while trying to flee on the bike.

He was stopped on South Orange Avenue, where he alerted detectives that he was in possession of a BB gun.

Miller was immediately arrested, and the weapon recovered.

He is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Obstructing the Administration of the Law and Resisting Arrest.

Police also arrested Richard J. Mitchell, 45, of Newark, on Monday, March 27, 2017, for gun possession.

Police responded to a residential building at Clinton Avenue and Thomas Street on a call of a suspicious person with a gun.

Officers observed Mitchell, who fit the description of the suspect, inside the building with a BB gun.

Mitchell was immediately arrested, and police recovered the weapon.

He is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
