Members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau arrested Alif Beyah, 18 and Elijah Kane, 24, both of Newark, for possession of a loaded Tec-9 semi-automatic pistol and suspected marijuana on Saturday.
According to authorities, at approximately 12 p.m., detectives patrolling the area of Avon and Peshine avenues observed the suspects conducting a drug transaction.
Detectives also observed the suspects possession of a gun.
The pistol’s magazine was loaded with 33 bullets police said.
Both Beyah and Kane were arrested without incident.
They each are charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon with a Large Capacity Magazine.
Kane was additionally charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Weapon During a CDS Offense, Possession of CDS (marijuana) and Possession of CDS (marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS within 1,000 feet of a School and Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Housing Complex.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
