Police Arrest Two Newark Men for Possession of a Loaded Handgun

Authorities announced the arrest of Yasin Calloway (left) and Jamal Johnson (right), both 36-years-old and both of Newark, for possession of a loaded handgun yesterday.

According to police, at approximately 12:40 p.m., a concerned citizen reported seeing a man with a gun inside a silver-colored van in the area of Johnson and Clinton Avenue.

Police responded to the area and located a vehicle fitting the description and observed two men inside the van with a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Police arrested Both men, Yasin Calloway and Jamal Johnson, without incident.

According to police, they charged Calloway and Johnson with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

Authorities also charged Johnson with Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

Calloway faces additional charges of aggravated assault.

Police said, shortly after 12 p.m., a woman was walking in the area of Madison and Shanley avenues when Calloway pointed a gun at her while threatening her during a quarrel.

In this incident, Police charged Calloway with Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
