A late night stop of a man who residents complained that was in a Newark apartment conducting illegal activities had police take the man into custody after finding the man in possession with a gun and illegal drugs.
According to authorities, Alford Kamara, 22, of Staten Island, was arrested for possession of two loaded handguns and CDS distribution Thursday night.
Police said at approximately 9:45 p.m., they were notified of a suspicious man with a handgun selling drugs at a building in the 100-block of 1st Street.
Arriving officers determined that the suspect was hiding in a vacant apartment in the building.
After confirming that the 2nd floor apartment was vacant, detectives of the Emergency Services Unit (E.S.U.) obtained permission from the building’s management company to enter.
Upon entry, the suspect, Alford Kamara, attempted to climb out of the window, but was secured by E.S.U. detectives, who observed an open bag containing two loaded 9MM handguns authorities said.
The bag also contained 81 glassine envelopes of suspected CDS heroin; one clear sandwich bag containing approximately 2.7 grams of suspected CDS heroin; 18 clear small containers of suspected CDS cocaine; 36 small Zip-Lock bags containing suspected CDS marijuana; one sandwich bag containing suspected CDS marijuana; and 5 Xanax pills according to authorities.
The bag also contained several credit cards, two New Jersey driver’s licenses, two Social Security cards, six cell phones, a camera, a black ski mask and other personal items.
A total of $251.50 along with boxes of sandwich bags, rubber bands, a mirror and a razor was also collected from the scene.
Kamara is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of a Weapon While Committing a CDS Offense, Possession of CDS (heroin, cocaine, marijuana and Xanax), Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute within 1,000-feet of a School, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Trespass.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
