Authorities announced the arrest of two Newark residents reportedly found in possession of two loaded handguns yesterday.
According to police, at approximately 4:50 p.m., police responded to Pine Grove Terrace, near South Orange Avenue, for reports of armed individuals in the area.
Upon arrival, officers said they observed two men - Mr. Jakim Fields, Mr. Khabir Shepard, Ms. Alytilyah Butler who fit the description of the suspects.
Police said a further investigation led them to Fields who they found with a loaded .45 caliber handgun and Alytilyah Butler in possession of a .380 caliber handgun.
Police arrested and charged Fields and Butler with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Authorities said they arrested Khabir Shepard for Hindering Apprehension and Contempt of Court on an outstanding warrant.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
