Authorities in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Obdulio Junior Negron, 36, of Newark, who was wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred on March 2nd.
Police said at approximately 9 p.m., the victim, who was walking in the area of Jackson Street near Ferry Street, was approached by two Hispanic males who struck him, rendering him unconscious, before stealing his gym bag and wallet.
According to Newark Police, the gym bag reportedly contained $500.00 and the wallet contained a debit card and other personal property.
The victim was treated at University Hospital for his injuries. His debit card was used on March 4th at a Newark coffee shop and again to make an online purchase from a mobile phone retailer.
Detectives investigating this incident reviewed the coffee shop’s surveillance footage and observed the suspect purchasing items using the victim’s debit card.
He was wearing black pants, a hooded sweatshirt, and a black hat, which matched the suspect description.
According to police, on April 16th, police in the area of Ferry Street and Alyea Street located the suspect, Negron, who was arrested without incident.
Negron faces charges of robbery, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, and theft of services.
These charges are merely accusations.
This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
