Two men were arrested overnight in connection to at least two vehicle burglaries in Linden, police said Tuesday.
Officers responded to a call of suspicious men looking into parked vehicles on Mack Place and Klem Avenue sometime around 2:33 this morning.
Upon arrival, police observed two men, both with gray-hooded sweatshirts, exiting a parked vehicle and walking away from the officers.
The officers stopped them and a check of their property revealed a cell phone and a lighter which had been taken from the vehicle, a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer.
The suspects also had a coin purse with identification cards belonging to a local woman, who, when contacted, told them that they had been taken from her 2003 Acura MDX, which had been parked on nearby Gilchrist Avenue.
Joseph A. Nieves, 21, of Elizabeth, and Daniel A. Pelaez, 20, of Linden, were both arrested at charged with burglary and theft.
Nieves also had a no bail contempt warrant out of the Union County Sheriff’s Department and Pelaez had a contempt warrant out of Egg Harbor Twp.
The men are being held at police headquarters pending the setting of bail.
