Police Arrest Laundromat Armed Robbery Suspects In Newark

Police arrested three suspects who robbed a Bloomfield Avenue Laundromat Monday afternoon authorities said.

Police said, shortly after 3pm, two rookie officers were on Bloomfield Avenue conducting a business check when they heard a patrol car dispatched to a robbery in progress less than a block away.

As the two officers neared the laundromat, three suspects ran from the business and got into a stolen car.

The trio fled from the car when it stalled on Berkley Avenue a short distance from the laundromat.

Police identified the three suspects, all Newark residents, as Eduardo Vazquez, 25, Christian Marte, 23 and a 16 year old juvenile, were apprehended by a combination of CDT and backup officers.

Police recovered both proceeds and the knife used during the robbery.

The three suspects were charged with, robbery, conspiracy, possession of a knife, possession of the knife for unlawful purposes and receiving stolen property for the auto. Police are investigating the likelihood that this trio is responsible for other recent robberies police said.

The two robbery victims weren’t hurt and required no medical attention.

Community Deployment Teams are comprised of new officers assigned exclusively to walking posts throughout the city.

Director Ambrose commended the new officers saying, “These officers did a good job. If the two officers hadn’t chased the suspects, they might have gotten away.
