Police Arrest Bloomfield Man and Newark Juvenile for Carjacking

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announces the arrest of Samir Farrar, 18, of Bloomfield, and a 16-year old juvenile from Newark, in connection with a carjacking that occurred yesterday.

Authorities said at approximately 7:15 p.m., a 22-year old female victim was entering her car in the area of Hillside Avenue and West Bigelow Street when she was approached by a male wearing a metallic mask.

The suspect pointed a gun at her and demanded her car keys. He then fled in her vehicle, a silver 2009 Toyota Matrix, heading west on West Bigelow Street.

Detectives of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau (S.E.B.) observed the stolen vehicle occupied by a driver and two passengers in the area of West Runyon and Jeliff avenues.

The driver ignored police orders to stop and the three suspects exited the vehicle at Jeliff Avenue and fled on foot.

S.E.B. detectives apprehended Samir Farrar and the juvenile. Both were arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest.

The third suspect remains at large.

These charges are merely an accusation. The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“I commend the dedication of the Special Enforcement Bureau detectives for ensuring that these suspects were quickly apprehended,” Director Ambrose said. “Because of the proven commitment of these detectives, Newark residents can enjoy a safer city today.”
