Newark Police successfully apprehended an armed suspect on Wednesday afternoon, charging him with illegal weapon possession.
The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when officers conducting an investigation spotted the suspect in the area of New and Norfolk Streets.The situation escalated as the suspect, reported to be uncooperative, led police to request backup.
The arrest was made near Norfolk and Central Avenue. At the scene, police confiscated a gun along with a loaded magazine, removing a potential threat from the streets.
A crime scene unit was called to the location to document evidence, including photographing the weapon.
This swift action by the Newark Police underscores their commitment to public safety and their vigilance in addressing illegal firearms in the community.
