Police officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Frank Amorim, 34, of Newark, for two burglaries that occurred in the East Ward.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, in the overnight hours of Wednesday, July 25th to Thursday, July 26th, 2018, a work van parked in the area of Jackson Street near Ferry Street was broken into and took power tools.
Missing from the vehicle were two electric power saws, a battery-operated drill, an electric handheld jackhammer, and an electric circular saw.
According to Director Ambrose, on Thursday, August 9th, at approximately 9 p.m., officers patrolling the 100-block of Chestnut Street were flagged down by a witness who reported that a man had removed items from a construction site in the 100-block of Chestnut Street.
Authorities say officers observed the suspect, Mr. Frank Amorim, in the area of Vessey Street.
Upon becoming aware of police presence, Amorim fled north on Pacific Street towards Chestnut Street where officers chased then immediately apprehended him police said.
Detectives investigating these incidents have determined that Amorim is a suspect in both incidents then charged him with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and criminal mischief in the separate incidents Director Ambrose said.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
