Authorities in Plainfield are investigating a fire that fatally injured a man in the city overnight.
According to authorities, at approximately 2:00 a.m., fire, police, and EMS responded to the 1200 block of Lansdowne Terrace for a structure fire.
Arriving emergency responders observed heavy fire on the 2nd floor of a 2 1/2 story frame single family dwelling authorities said.
Searches were conducted before the fire was controlled where firefighters located the sole occupant who was reported to be an adult male on the fire floor who was unconscious and removed to EMS and transported to an area hospital authorities said.
The victim's injuries turned fatal at the hospital.
Authorities said mutual aid assisted at the scene and covered the city.
The house is uninhabitable and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
There were no injuries to first responders.
