A crash that killed an 18-year-old from Scotch Plains and a 15-year-old from Berkeley Heights has family and friends mourning their loss on social media.
According to the Plainfield Police Division, officers responded to the area of East Second Street and Emerson Avenue Saturday around 6 a.m. for a single car crash involving an overturned vehicle.
Upon arrival, police found 18-year-old Tyler Devaney of Scotch Plains and a 15-year-old from Berkeley Heights, who were unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
Although the investigation is still continuing, it was determined that high speed was a contributing factor, police said.
The accident is under investigation by the Plainfield Police Division's Traffic Unit.
Police declined to identify the 15-year-old teen but mourners on social media and a letter from the superintendent of Berkeley Heights Public Schools have identified him as Eric Hagen.
