Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that a man from Piscataway has been sentenced to serve 66 ½ years in a New Jersey state prison for the murder of a 31-year-old Raritan woman on Halloween Night in 2016.
According to authorities, Christopher Koller, 41, of Piscataway was sentenced today in New Brunswick Superior Court for the murder of Beth Bezek, who he forced out of his third-floor window following an altercation.
Officials say Koller received a 60 years prison term for the count of murder which is subject to the No Early Release Act. As such, Koller will have to serve 85 percent of the term, or 51 years, before he can be released on parole. If parole is granted, Koller will be placed on five years of parole supervision.
In addition, Koller also received a flat sentence of 18 months for hindering his own prosecution, in addition to a 5-year flat sentence for the possession and distribution of a controlled and dangerous substance. These two prison terms are to run consecutive to each other, and consecutive to the 60-year prison term and to his Violation of Probation out of Somerset County.
The sentence was imposed after Koller was found guilty by a jury on March 27, 2018, of the murder of Beth Bezek. In addition, he was also found guilty of hindering his own apprehension, and distribution of a controlled and dangerous substance, to wit cocaine.
During a trial that began on February 28, 2018, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Lamountain and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Arabelys Santos presented evidence and testimony showing that the victim was visiting Koller at his Piscataway home where he forced her out of his third-floor window; she died on November 1, 2018 from severe blunt impact trauma to her head which was caused from the fall.
According to authorities, Koller then left his home, drove to New Brunswick, and placed an anonymous 911 call from a pay phone saying a girl was lying injured on Pond Lane in Piscataway. The police responded and found the victim lying dead outside his home on Pond Lane at 1:04 a.m.
