Piscataway Man Indicted for Killing Brother

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that a township man was indicted today by a grand jury in Middlesex County on charges related to the fatal shooting of his brother.

Jahmeel Stevenson, 21, of Piscataway, was indicted for murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in the shooting of his brother, Henry Stevenson Jr., 24, of Piscataway.

Stevenson was also charged with hindering his apprehension and tampering with evidence.

The defendant was charged on June 22, 2017, during an intensive investigation by Detective Kyle Weaver of the Piscataway Police Department, and Detective Erik Larsen of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation determined that after a verbal argument between brothers, Jahmeel Stevenson shot and killed his brother Henry at their residence.

Police responded to the shooting in the area of West Third Street and Poplar Place at approximately 7 p.m. on June 16th.

Upon arrival, police found the victim on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he later was pronounced dead.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Stevenson are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven.
