Police are investigating a physical confrontation that left two people stabbed at a social services building in Newark this afternoon.
The incident broke out shortly after 3 p.m. at the building that houses the Essex County Division of Welfare (18 Rector Street) where police from the Essex County Sheriff's Department and Newark Police rushed to scene to find three people engaged in a fight with a man bleeding from the hand and a woman suffering a cut to the ear and face.
EMS bandaged the male victim's finger then police placed him in custody.
A woman (who appeared to be accompanied by the male) was also placed in handcuffs.
The woman (who suffered the stab injury to face and ear) was taken by EMS to University Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.
There were reports of a third injuries victim but we could not confirm those account.
Newark Police are attempting to determine what prompted the altercation.
