Middlesex County officials announced that a Perth Amboy man was arrested on Tuesday on multiple charges involving a sexual assault which occurred in the City on August 9.
Ricardo Powell, 33, of Perth Amboy was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal restraint, criminal sexual contact, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
An investigation is being conducted by Detective Manny Lopez of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Amanda Espinosa of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation has determined that on August 9, at approximately 12:43 am, in the City of Perth Amboy, Powell, while armed with a knife, approached a 20-year old female and sexually assaulted her outside of her home.
The suspect was unknown to the victim.
Powell is currently being held in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing in New Brunswick Superior Court.
