Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Roman McKeon of the Perth Amboy Police Department said a city man has been charged with fatally shooting his sister.
Arun Aftab, 34, of Perth Amboy was charged with murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the shooting of Urooj Aftab, 32, of Perth Amboy.
A complaint warrant was signed for Arun Aftab on October 30, 2017 and he was apprehended by the Canadian Border Patrol as he was trying to enter Canada with a handgun.
Arun Aftab is currently being held in Canada, and is expected to be returned to the United States.
Police were alerted by a family friend at approximately 12:10 a.m. to check on the well-being of the sister at their residence early this morning. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:49 a.m.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Aftab are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
