Authorities in Middlesex County announced that a Perth Amboy man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing that occurred on April 28 in the City of Perth Amboy.Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said on April 28, at approximately 8:59 p.m., authorities responded to the area of Smith Street and Maple Street following the report of a stabbing.
Upon their arrival, officials said, authorities located Jason Torres, 32, of Perth Amboy, who had multiple stab wounds and had collapsed on the sidewalk.
Torres was transported to Hackensack Merdian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, officials stated.
According to officials, an investigation led by Detective Jose Santiago of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined at the inception of the investigation that this was not a random act of violence.
Officials say the perpetrator, Luis Alberto Serrano Diaz, 24, of Perth Amboy, knew the victim.Authorities say the investigation led to Diaz being arrested without incident and charged with first-degree Murder, fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Diaz is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending the results of a Pre-Trial detention hearing, officials said.
