A hospital walk-in victim found suffering gunshot wounds has sparked a police investigation overnight in Jersey City.
Officials at the Jersey City Medical Center contacted police when a person suffering multiple gunshot wounds entered the emergency department at approximately 2:25 a.m.
As medical personnel began to treat the victim, police searched several parts of the city for a crime scene.
Residents living near the parking lot of Walgreens on Communipaw Avenue said they observed about 15-20 police vehicles in the vicinity of Kennedy Boulevard and around the establishment, but police have not confirmed if the victim suffered his injuries at that location.
The extent of the victim's injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
UPDATE 10:35 pm : Police activity that residents observed in the vicinity of Walgreen was NOT due to a shooting but anniversary commemoration of Detective Melvin Santiago who was fatally shot there four years ago.
The shooting remains under investigation.
