A dramatic fire in Newark's North Ward on Sunday night prompted an urgent response from local firefighters and led to a woman being hospitalized after she reportedly jumped from a window to escape the blaze. The fire department was dispatched to 88 Broad Street around 11:30 p.m., where they encountered heavy flames engulfing a two-story building.
Despite the challenging conditions, fire crews effectively deployed several lines to combat the fire, which was threatening to spread to adjacent homes.
Amid their efforts to contain the fire, firefighters requested emergency medical assistance for a female victim who had jumped from the second floor of the burning structure.
She was quickly transported to University Hospital with a leg injury and is anticipated to make a recovery.
The fire was brought under control within an hour, but the building, which was believed to be vacant at the time of the fire, sustained significant damage.
Fire officials are actively investigating the cause of the fire.
