Tragedy struck in downtown Newark as a person jumped from the 23rd floor of a newly constructed high-rise building at 2 Center Street.
The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. and prompted a swift response from the police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams.
Upon reaching the scene, responders discovered the severely injured individual on the ground across from The NJ Performing Arts Center.
Despite the responders' efforts, the person was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident caused temporary traffic congestion in the area as investigators worked meticulously to gather information and understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
No one on the ground was harmed during the incident.
Police entered the building to make notifications to the victim's family. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been informed about this tragic incident.
