The Union County Prosecutor's Office is investigating an incident where a body was found on their tracks in Union County Thursday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 8:17 p.m., Plainfield and NJ Transit Police responded to NJ Transit train tracks near the intersection of West 2nd Street and Central Avenue to investigate reports of an unconscious person.
Upon arrival, police found the unidentified person dead at that location.
NJ Transit officials have not confirmed if the individual was struck by a train at this time. Transit officials this morning referred all questions to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.
The cause and circumstances behind the person's death are under investigation.
