The Lakewood Police Department is currently investigating an aggravated assault that occurred a short time ago in the Township's Municipal Building.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:55 a.m., officers were alerted -via panic alarms- that there was an unknown issue on the second floor of the complex.
Police say shortly after their arrival, officers were advised that an unidentified man was acting disorderly in a nearby hallway.
Police located the man sitting in a hallway chair where officers attempted to get information from him. Police say without warning, the suspect stood up and struck at least one of the officers in the eye.
Officials say the man continued to resist but was ultimately taken into custody.
Police say during the struggle, a folding knife was confiscated from suspect’s waistband.
According to police, shortly after the altercation, they learned that the suspect allegedly stabbed an unknown victim with the recovered weapon.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with what police described non-life threatening injuries.
According to authorities, the assault appeared to be a random attack at this time but police are continuing to investigate.
