There is an active investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office into what cause a fatal pedestrian strike in Bayville late last night.
Two pedestrians were struck in front of the Shop Rite that's located in the 400 block of U.S. 9 shortly after 9 p.m according to reports.
First responder arrived to find both victims badly injured with one of the victims laying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive.
Medical staff on the scene attempted several life saving techniques before handing over the most seriously injured victim to EMS crews for the short transport to a waiting Medevac helicopter.
According to reports, the critically injured patient did not make the flight to the hospital as the injury turned fatal.
The remaining victim was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Medical Center suffering critical injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
