Authrootitie closed off a portion of Route Plainfield in North Plainfield to conduct an accident investigation after a pedestrian was struck by a car overnight.
Police were called to the 600 block of Route 22 -near the Auto Zone- just before 2:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a pedestrian down at that location.
Units arrived at the scene to find the unidentified person suffering serious injuries after a car struck them on the highway according to reports.
EMS rushed the victim to an area hospital while police notified the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office to assist in the investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
