Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle While Good Samaritans Performed Medical Aid in Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Despite two good samaritans’ efforts to assist a reportedly unconscious male on the road, the man was struck and killed by vehicle during their assistance in Elizabeth.

According to police, at approximately 7:56 p.m., officers responded to a report of an auto/pedestrian accident in the area of Bayway and Brunswick avenues.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined that two males passing through the area, exited their vehicle to assist an unconscious man laying in the middle of the road.

One of the good samaritans performed CPR on the victim while the other man attempted to stop oncoming traffic but the victim receiving medical assistance was ultimately struck by a red Honda that initially left the scene authorities said.

According to authorities, the driver of the red Honda - who was traveling with his son - returned to the scene after his son informed him that he believed that they hit something in the road.

Witnesses said they saw the victim possibly panhandling before he collapsed onto the roadway.

The incident remains under investigation.
