An early week pedestrian strike that happened in the city's Ironbound section left a woman dead a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed.
According to the spokesperson, the victim has been identified as Camille Barletta, 25, a **United Airlines** flight attendant from Chicago.
The incident happened on Tuesday in the 100 block of Chestnut Street where Barletta was walking on the sidewalk with one other person when an apparent out of control vehicle which appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the woman from behind, throwing Barletta more that 30 feet where she landed in front of a house according to residents in the area.
Several residents on the tight-knit block (including an off-duty EMT) attempted to provide life saving techniques to Barletta until the emergency responders arrived but Barletta was pronounced dead on Wednesday according to authorities.
The Essex County Prosecutor's spokesperson told RLS Metro Breaking News that a 17-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged in the incident but could not release his name because of his age.
According to an United Airlines spokesperson, Barletta **(a graduate from Loyola University of Chicago)** was a flight attendant for the airlines since September, 2015 and was loved by her co-workers. The spokesperson could not immediately confirm if Barletta was on a layover which placed her in the Newark Ironbound neighborhood.
The incident remains under investigation according to the spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutors Office.
