Elizabeth Police are investigating a pedestrian strike that caused fatal injuries on a busy roadway early Monday morning.
A preliminary investigation indicated that shortly before 3 a.m., EMS found an unconscious and unresponsive person lying in the southbound lanes near the intersection of Route 1&9 and East Grand Street.
Medical crews administered CPR on the unidentified person before they were rushed to an area hospital.
Police closed two lanes on the highway for the crash investigation.
No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the incident has not been determined at this time.
