Jersey City Police temporarily closed a portion of a major roadway to traffic while detectives investigated a pedestrian strike that killed a person Wednesday night.
It happened around 10:17 p.m. on NJ-440 and Communipaw Avenue.
Preliminary reports said police were dispatched to that section of the roadway they received reports of a person down. Emergency responders arrived and found a severely hurt individual at that location.
Police say the victim was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the fatal incident.
There was no information immediately available about the driver who struck the victim.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
