NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation into a pedestrian train strike that killed a man in Garfield earlier Tuesday afternoon.
According to a statement released by NJ Transit officials, train number 64 left Port Jervis at 1:35 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken just before 3:55 when it struck an adult male at around 3:30 p.m.
Officials say the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the Plauderville Station.
40 passengers and crew member were on the Bergen County Line train and suffered no injuries.
The incident caused about an hour service delay officials said.
