The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified and confirmed a pedestrian strike that resulted in fatal injuries for a person in Livingston overnight.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 11:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the vicinity of Goodhart Drive and West South Orange Avenue to investigate reports of a pedestrian struck by a car.
Upon arrival, police found the severely injured victim lying on the ground at that location. According to reports, the vehicle that struck the victim was not at the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later by medical professionals, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Chief Fennelly said.
Authorities believe that the fleeing vehicle has heavy front-end damage and is light-colored.
Chief Fennelly told RLS Media that the investigation is early, active and ongoing.
The incident is under investigation.
