The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation into a fatal pedestrian strike that occurred Monday morning in Newark.
According to county authorities, at approximately 8 a.m., emergency repsonders rushed to the area of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Evergreen Street to investigate reports of a person struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, police found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive man lying in the middle of the street after truck struck him at that location.
Residents in the neighborhood said they have seen the victim in the area but wasn't sure if he lived there.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
