Paterson Teen, 16, Gets 10 Years for Firing at Police During Robbery Spree

A 16-year-old Paterson teen was sentenced to a decade in prison, August 15th after he fired a starter's pistol at police during a reported robbery.

Prosecutor's charged Ammir Ramos as an adult, on June 29th admitted to three counts of robbery, two counts of using a weapon against police, drugs and other charges.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, last week Ramos was sentenced to 10 years and must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.

The robberies began on March 29th, when Ramos pulled what appeared to be a revolver - but later determined to be a black revolver-style, blank firing gun - on a person shortly before demanding their belongings.

Soon after, Ramos pointed the fake gun at a couple with a child and took their belongings.

In the area of Carroll Street, Ramos encountered one of his previous victims and attempted to rob them again, however this time a struggle ensued. Paterson Police officers witnessed the fight and immediately approached to assist a victim. Upon police arrival, Ramos pointed the fake gun at the officers and fired at them.

The officer discharged his gun in the area of Park and Carroll Streets.

Police arrested Ramos a short time later in Roberto Clemente Park. There were no injuries reported.

Pole ultimately arrested Ramos who was found in possession of heroin and cocaine.

The shooting remains under investigation.
