Paterson Suspect Captured for Hamilton Avenue Shooting

Authorities in Passaic County said Mr. Samuel Anthony, 22, from Paterson, was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation on August 4,  in the area of Hamilton Avenue and Summer Street. 

According to Passaic County officials,  Anthony is charged with Robbery, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree; and Aggravated Assault, Fourth Degree.

On August 4, police were notified that a 21-year-old male Paterson resident arrived at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center via private vehicle to treat a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Officials said it was determined that at about 4:59 p.m. in the area of Hamilton Avenue and Summer Street, a gunman approached an individual and brandished a firearm during the commission of a robbery.

According to police, the handgun discharged during an ensuing struggle, striking the victim, who was a bystander. 

Passaic County officials said the defendant was identified as the gunman and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was then captured at 9 p.m. on August 12th in the area of Prospect Strete and Passaic Avenue in Passaic. 

  The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention that will be heard on August 18, 2021, before the Honorable Joseph Portelli, J.S.C.
