Police took a male into custody and charged him with possession of a firearm in Paterson on Tuesday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a ShotSpotter activation alerted police of gunfire in the area of 17th Avenue and East 23nd Street.
When Police arrive at the scene to investigate, they found a male victim in possession of a handgun at that location.
Police say they are investigating if the suspect fired the weapon and the motive for the shooting.
Paterson Police officials reported no injuries in the shooting.
