Passaic County officials reported that Walter A. Williams, 30, of Paterson, was sentenced on Wednesday by the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, J.S.C. to an aggregate sentence of 6 years New Jersey State Prison of which mandatory 85% must be served prior to parole eligibility, pursuant to the No Early Release Act.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on February 6, 2023, a Passaic County jury returned guilty verdicts of Second- Degree Aggravated Assault and Third-Degree Theft from the Person.
The State presented evidence at the trial that on November 15, 2020, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Mr. Williams assaulted, Mr. Luis Rey, 62, of Paterson, in the area of 442 Broadway in Paterson.
Prosecutor Valdes said Mr. Williams took Mr. Rey and slammed him onto the concrete sidewalk resulting in a broken collarbone, several broken ribs and a head laceration.
In addition, certain property that Mr. Rey had in his possession, prior to the assault, was taken by Mr. Williams.
