Police in Paterson are searching for a gunman who fired over two dozen rounds in a neighborhood, causing heavy property damage overnight.
A ShotSpotter device registered and detected gunfire in the area of Sparrow Street and Highland Street just before midnight.
When officers arrived on the scene, they taped off part of the community after locating approximately 27 shell casings.
The bullets damaged several homes and cars, but fortunately, no victims were found during a thorough search of the neighborhood.
The suspect fled the scene and has not been captured.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined, and the Paterson Police Department will lead the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
