Paterson Man Pleaads Guilty to Committing, Filming Sexual Assault of Three Minors

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that **Steven Brown, 41, of Paterson,** has pleaded guilty to three (3) counts of Sexual Assault (Second Degree) , one count of Sexual Assault (Second Degree), one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Second Degree), and one count of Violating the Terms of Community Supervision for Life (Fourth Degree) .

According to authorities, during a 2012 search conducted by New Jersey State Parole Officers of the Paterson residence of Steven Brown, who was a registered sex offender and subject to Parole Supervision for Life at the time, some computers and electronic devices were recovered. Subsequently, a search of those computers revealed multiple videos of Steven Brown engaging in sexual acts with young males.

One of the males was initially identified by the police, and another male came forward to authorities shortly after that. In April 2013, Steven Brown was charged with the Sexual Assault of these two young males. A third male victim was later identified, and also came forward to speak to members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Steven Brown was then charged with Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child for filming his sexual encounters with the third victim.

All three victims were males between the ages of thirteen and fifteen at the times of the Sexual Assaults, which occurred at different locations within Passaic, Union, and Middlesex counties.

Authorities said on March 9, 2017, Steven Brown pleaded guilty before the Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, J.S.C. At sentencing, the State will recommend that the defendant be sentenced to consecutive terms on the Sexual Assaults for each of the identified victims.

For the Sexual Assaults on the first two victims the State will recommend ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison, with a five (5) year term of parole ineligibility, and for the Sexual Assault on the third victim a term of five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison with five (5) years before parole eligibility.

The State will also recommend a concurrent sentence of ten (10) years in state prison subject to the No Early Release Act on the remaining Sexual Assault charge in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(c)(1); a concurrent ten (10) year State Prison sentence on the Endangering the Welfare of a Child charge; and eighteen (18) months concurrent on the Violation of Community Supervision for Life.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the defendant’s total exposure at sentencing will be twenty-five (25) years in New Jersey State Prison with fifteen (15) years of parole ineligibility.

Upon his release from New Jersey State Prison, Steven Brown will be on Parole Supervision for Life, will have to register by Megan’s Law, and undergo a sex offender evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

Sentencing for Steven Brown is scheduled for June 23, 2017, before Judge Portelli. The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Julie Serfess. The Defendant was represented by Paul Chiaramonte, Esq.
