Passaic County Authorities announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Sherriff’s Department, Timothy Simmons, 29, of Paterson, was arrested on Feb. 15th in connection with an armed robbery investigation.
According to authorities on Feb. 12th at approximately 7:11 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of 176 East 22nd Street on a report of a robbery. Upon arrival the police located a 44-year-old female Paterson resident who informed them that he had been robbed at gunpoint.
Officers at approximately 10:50 a.m., the same day, were dispatched to the area of 415 Crosby Street Paterson, on a report of an armed robbery. Police spoke with a 27-year-old Paterson man who informed them that he had been robbed at gunpoint and while the suspect fled he had fired his handgun at the victim, however the victim was not hit.
Based on an investigation by members of the Paterson Police Department and Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, Timothy Simmons was identified as the suspect involved.
Authorities ultimately arrested and charged Simmons with Attempted Murder, First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, 1st Degree.
Officials said Timothy Simmons is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on Feb. 16th at 1:30, p.m. The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
