Authorities in Passaic County announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Anderson Martinez, 26- years old from Paterson, was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place on July 4, 2023, in the area of Essex Street and Madison Street in Paterson.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said Anderson Martinez is charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, and Aggravated Assault.
According to officials, at approximately 11:34 p.m. on July 4, the Paterson Police were advised that a 20-year-old male Paterson resident and a 19-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, via private vehicle, each seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Prosecutor Valdes said that based on the investigation, it was determined that the victims were struck by gunfire in the area of Essex Street and Madison Street in Paterson.
A potential crime scene was located in that area, officials say.
Police say throughout the investigation, Paterson Police identified Anderson Martinez as the shooter and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Paterson Police arrested Anderson Martinez at approximately 3:00 a.m. on July 26 in the area of 21st Avenue and Chestnut Street in Paterson.
According to officials, the State intends to file a motion for the pretrial detention of Anderson Martinez, which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
