Paterson Man Arrested After Falsely Claiming to be Undercover Cop

Paterson Hunterdon County

A 65-year-old Paterson man was arrested after claiming to be an undercover police officer.

Yesterday, Trooper Ross Soares, of Troop “B” Perryville Station, stopped Veljko Kitanovski, 65, of Paterson, on eastbound Interstate 78 in Union Township, Hunterdon County for a traffic violation.

During their brief interaction, Kitanovski proceeded to tell Trooper Soares that he was an undercover police officer who worked for the Paterson Police Department.

However, State Police ODU North informed Tpr. Soares that Kitanovski had a suspended driver’s license and Kitanovski did not have proper credentials to support his claim. Police immediately contacted the Paterson Police Department where they discovered that he was not, in fact, a police officer.

Kitanovski was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.

He was released pending court.
